5 Quick Stress-Busting Tips for HIGH PRESSURE Situations

I’m excited to share with you five quick and effective stress-busting techniques that you can use in high-pressure situations. Drawing from my recent experience of giving a public speech to colleagues, I explore how stress, particularly in demanding scenarios like public speaking, affects us all.

 

Focused Breathing: I begin with two breathing exercises – a six-count breath and box breathing. I found these techniques incredibly helpful in calming myself before my speech. They reintroduce oxygen to the system, slow down the heart rate, and help regain focus.

 

Sensory Grounding: Next, I discuss ‘sensory grounding’ as a method to bring ourselves back to the present by engaging our senses. I explain how focusing on immediate sensory experiences can help divert attention from stress-inducing thoughts about the past or future.

 

Positive Intentions and Affirmations: The third technique I share is setting positive intentions and using affirmations. I emphasize the power of the words “I am” and the importance of following them with positive, empowering statements to control and redirect our thoughts.

 

Mental Gratitude Checklist: I then talk about the benefits of a mental gratitude checklist. Reflecting on things I am grateful for helped me shift my focus from anxiety about future events to the positive aspects of my life.

 

Visualization: Finally, I suggest visualization, where we imagine being in a happy, calming place. I share my experience of visualizing my favorite hiking spot, illustrating how this practice can mentally transport us to a serene state.

 

I conclude the episode by reminding you of the importance of stress as a signal for problem-solving and encourage you to share your own stress-reduction techniques. This episode is a blend of personal anecdotes and practical advice, aimed at empowering you with quick, effective methods to manage stress in challenging situations.
